Bird's Eye View

You can only see me from a bird’s view
From your nest, you gaze at my imperfection.
My ungraceful stride, my tousled clothes.
And you slander after your inspection.
Striving to keep composure,
I try not to gaze at your sneering. .
But every time you slip your tongue,
My mind echoes what I am hearing.
Fear no more, I answer your call.
I respond to your small words.
I suffer not from the pain you cause
When the heart ignores what’s heard.

~Sabra
Salam U Alaikum,
I wrote this couple nights ago:

Time only told me of my mistakes
Little did I realize my misfortunes
Were just the trick of God’s game.
I wish I knew it and believed it.
If only I could accept it.
But I am wrong, and I’m unthinking.
Misconstrued, self-deceiving.
I cannot lose a winner’s game.
I cannot be defeated. But my ego is no royal flush.

Why do you question my every word?
Why do you condemn my thought?
Why do you study my every move?
Like my body is more weak than not?
Why are my actions overlooked?
Why don't you seem to care?
I paint my lips, wet my fingertips
Can you see me beyond my hair?
Do you open your ears, do you fix your eyes
When I stand before your feet?
Can you feel my every breath on you
When I motion myself to speak?
Do you thank the Lord for giving grace
To my every stride?
Do you admire how my hips are curved
How my chin is raised in pride?
Do you walk ahead of me
or wander from behind?
Has strolling abreast, hand in hand, ever crossed your mind?
Have you ever wiped a single tear I shed from my eyes?
Do you ease my soul, take away the pain
Or spare the burdens from which I cry?
And when I leave you to rest in peace,
Before I am left to die,
Will you have the heart to hear me then?
Respect the grave in which I lie?
Do you wish to guide me and lend me your hand?
Love me to the very end?
Do you respect the woman, the best of me?
Or am I my own best friend?
