How do we know its true?

First and foremost, I wish all of you a beautiful morning on this special day of Eid! Eid Kareem everyone! I feel blessed to spend this day with my grandparents from my dad's side, those who I haven't seen in years and came from afar.

So I was reading a forum within the group of "Islam", and a thread was posted on the originality of Islam. If one observed it, then was it really the true religion? How would we know? It's a simple thing called faith. If you believe, then it is.


Here was a reply I posted to the thread:

Salam U Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatahu,

This is the very question my first grade Quran class had asked me.
"How do we know if its all true? How do we know its not fake?"

SubhanAllah. It is this very innocence and naivety that invites us into the beauty of one religion, but more dangerously, makes us vulnerable.

An ignorant will never know the truth, unless he seeks the truth himself. We cannot rely on random internet forums or any form of media. Truth comes within our heart, and we must accept what we feel under one condition- when we are aware of all school of thought.

Islam is a simple religion. That is what makes it so beautiful. You may think by the contrary, but one must look deeper into this faith and dig deep through all the misconceptions and biased thought. Islam comes straight from the Quran and Sunnah, and then it comes from word of mouth. When we speak, alhamdulilah in this country of America where most of you reside are given the freedom of speech. So lets use this privelage wisely and not oppress others for their school of thought nor silence ours.

We must question, we must observe, and we must argue. Without an argument, understanding is a lost cause.

But when you observe, please restrain yourself from offending others. There are many ignorant out there, but if we continue to bash and berate, how in the world will we ever know the truth? It will only draw them away.

I fear that people who are unaware of the beauty of Islam will see this forum and be confounded by the dissent among the very Muslims that claim that a religion of peace unites them.

I pray for all of us to open our hearts, open our minds, yet still mantain our dignity.
